I find that R’s are better for local governance and D’s are better for governor/senator/congressman

I think things run smoother when federal government cedes to the states, except in national security, international relationships, and interstate commerce.

Of course, this is all centered on moderates from both parties and not the extremists on either end.

Can't cede things like environmental protection to the states either because with air pollution, wind doesn't care about your state border and sovereignty, it only follows the laws of physics. Similarly this is also the case with water pollution as water flows downstream. Pollution doesn't magically stop at the state line, it has to be dealt with at the source. Ideology can not and will not ever beat the laws of physics.

Homelessness: The most typical Republican approach to homelessness is NOT to provide the services needed, but to instead round up the homeless and ship them off to somewhere else, typically a blue city like NYC, DC, San Francisco. That's how they "clean it up" - by making it someone else's problem. That is NOT a solution.

Crime: Republicans were responsible for bloating and overloading our court and prison system with the failed war on drugs. Republicans have been responsible for unnecessarily militarizing police forces and for looking the other way when out-of-control police forces use excessive force and murder civilians for the stupidest reasons, like supposedly passing a counterfeit $20 or selling loose cigarettes. Meanwhile, crime on a per capita basis is every bit as bad in many Republican-run jurisdictions. Jacksonville and places like that are far from crime-free. I don't think Republicans are that great on crime. Basically cops under Republican leadership are not much better than the criminal gangs they are supposed to police, except they have badges.

Public schools: They promote school choice which is both good and bad - it can allow for more specialized charters to flourish but at the same time many absolutely horrible charters have also flourished and it ends up looking like a massive DeVos grift. Not to mention sucking money out of the system to promote Christian education, which goes against separation of church and state - and you know damn well they don't believe in freedom of religion because they would be screaming bloody murder if someone hit a Republican administration up to fund a madrasa.

Wrong school choice is never good! Full stop! There is no two sides to school choice it sucks for everyone!

Republicans 100% defunded the Police not dems. Anyone screaming that one needs to talk to majors of cities all accross the country they are suing the Trump Administration for unpaid millions of $. Now taxpayers have to make up that funding or defund the police.
