You’re in a tiny minority. |
| The prison closed in 2001. |
| Lorton is just a bunch of suburban sprawl that attracts new money Middle Eastern, Pakistani, and Indian immigrants. |

Like Lorton Hears a Who?
|
| "Isn't there a prison there? Aren't you worried about convicts escaping?" |

Moved here from DC during pandemic. It's definitely suburban but you get used to it. Good for kids imo. Lots of different activities to keep them busy if you want. Schools seem fine but not the upper crust of the DCUM set. On the plus side, they're very diverse if it's important to you. It was to us. More local restaurants would be nice and the commute kinda sucks. Personally would probably have preferred Fairfax city or Vienna but extended family and affordability led us here.
TLDR - middle of the road suburb |
Hah! Pretty accurate actually. Don't forget the military families mixed in. |
|
It was a great prison in its day. |
Not really. |
Really? There recently and only saw white people. |
Are you kidding? The prison was huge and the area has been redeveloped and a lot of the prison workhouses and guard towers were preserved throughout the community as they are historic. What they have done with the area is so cool. All homes are all brick. The front doors have glass that has been etched as if there are prison bars in them. So cool! Artists, breweries are moving into the workhouses and there is a lot of open space. When I want to see the sky I walk the dog in Lorton. (Currently living in old town)

| ^^townhouses in that redeveloped community run 800k+ and the SFH are over 1M. Also indoor world class ski slopes coming which will trigger additional development. So definitely not cheap anymore. Those days have passed. |
