Late application for our AAP 8th grader in high school math, now or later?

Don't apply now. The offices will be overwhelmed, and they're not going to drop everything to process another application.

I also would not expect doing high school math in 8th grade to be an important differentiator.

Results come later today.
If you are thinking about Basis, I don't think it's a problem to call today. I would avoid most of next week though and I'd also avoid the other independents for that period.
For the Catholic schools I think it's fine it's inquire now as results came out 2 weeks ago.

Almost half of my kid’s 8th grade class is in Geometry, and some are in Algebra 2. “High school math” isn’t the differentiator you think it is.

Lol, so Basis isn’t swamped right about now?

What school is this. I haven't seen algebra 2 listed in the course catalog for any middle school that I've checked. Thanks.

A kid can take it in Fairfax County Public Schools if he tests in or has taken Algebra 1 in 7th.

Some schools save spots for late applicants- for example St. Andrews did that last year and posts it on their website. I think Burke does too. It is worth taking a look at some of the school sites or calling admissions.

Most schools won't let you go through the admissions process once it's over so you can't join a waitlist by applying now without school approval. You are going to have to call individual schools to see if they will accept late applications. Probably most will say no, but a few might say yes in which case, you might want to start with those. Otherwise, schools will post their applications for fall 2024 in Aug/Sept of 2023.
