When he asks about Y state that it was not the objective, you are happy to end the meeting and get a response. Other than that, you already figured out an approach to stand your ground - and the grey rock approach is a great tip. Say as little as possible. Give yourself time to frame responses - in my experience the moments of silence are triggers to people like this - so use this approach but be prepared for the response. Do not lose sleep over this - it is not worth it. |
