My son passed up an MLS Next offer because he didn’t want to give up HS soccer. |
It doesn’t really matter one way or the other. Few of them will get D1 college offers either from MLS Next or ECNL. |
But for those who have gotten D1 offers, did they play MLSNext or ECNL or some other league or exclusively high school? |
If the ECNL kids are good enough to play MLS next, they will have no problem making the varsity team and will likely be glad of playing alongside other players of similar ability. The only ECNL kids who would get upset are the ones who won't make the varsity team as a result - and in that case they weren't good enough to play MLS Next in the first place so they aren't making a sacrifice. |
Anybody who reports a kid playing for their high school team to his club is a Class 1 *****. |
People really would choose a lesser league so they can play poor quality HS soccer? Someone made the Bethesda MLS Next team but chose to play ECNL instead because of HS? |
My son quit high school before senior year to play mlsnext because he wants to play in college and out high school coaches are awful people are well as awful coaches. HS was an utter waste of time. Complete time suck for nothing. |
Not Bethesda, but my kid did that. But now he’s finding HS is a joke full of nepotism and those connected with the coach get a pass and still play mlsnext. |
Whatever. The best players in our high school all quit the HS team before senior year. Some never played for the HS team. The college commits from our HS aren’t coming from the HS program. |
In our HS, they did not play HS soccer. They were either ECNL or MLSNext. |
We have a kid at our HS telling everyone he was selected for DC United academy, but turned it down to play HS😃🤣. Completely full of sh@t. |
I'm the outlier here who have a son who could play MLS Next but really wanted to play for his high school so did ECNL -- it was such a great experience for him (and us!) -- sense of pride playing for your school, got to know kids from other grades, played in front of classmates and teachers, etc... For us it was the best of both worlds to do that and ECNL but he was at a private school with a great program/coach so there's that. |
Our private plays rec and third team players over ECNL players since they just want bully kickball. It’s not fun if you are used to playing decent soccer. |
We have a couple on my sons team that lied about being mlsnext players to secure a spot freshmen year and rude that out. They are on a second team and ride the bench at their club, but the HS thinks they play that level so they set their spot even when they lose the ball 9 out of 10 touches. |
My son’s MLSNext team often had college coaches come out to their practices to scout. Not something that ever happened with my other kid at high school practices or games. College coaches told him they do not care about high school. |
