I had a few random encounters with Tommy Lasorda.
Spring training as the game was about to start and he was signing autographs he stated that he was not going to leave that evening until everyone who wanted an autograph got one... And he came back after the game to the spot and signed autographs.

About 10 years later I saw him at the LAX Marriott chatting with the parking valets. He opened his trunk and gave them all Dodgers swag. I was watching from a far but it was great to see.

In my first job out of college, I got to meet quite a few celebs. The most delightful and memorable was Seamus Heaney, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature. I spent a day driving him around town to various appointments. He was absolutely charming and down to earth.

Surprisingly, George W Bush is extremely charming and humble in person.

What an extremely interesting way to spend a day! Glad you got to do that, PP.

Me and my fellow then teenyboppper girlfriends were treated really kindly by some band members from Third Eye Blind backstage at an Earth Day event in the late nineties

I waited on Dana Perino and complimented her when she was leaving, she gave me a hug

Also introduced myself to Susan Rice when I was waiting tables, she was nice and encouraging (asked me if I was in school, told me to keep it up)

Bill Clinton shook my hand when I was in middle school - he is charisma embodied

Waited on the character actor Michael Shannon a few times - before he was super successful (they were in town for a show his wife was in with the Shakespeare Theater) - he became a regular and was very friendly and kind

My husband adores Heaney’s poetry, so he’ll be happy to hear this.

And while we’re talking about the arts, Yo Yo Ma is an absolutely delightful human. I’ve met a bunch of others, but think he might be my favorite.

I know he embodies nepotism, but agree that he’s a nice guy, as was his dad.

Like 20 years ago, my dad got into playing poker with some friends of my uncle. A few of them were in politics. They said he's much smarter than he comes across.

We've probably all met Dave Grohl at some point, but he dated a friend of mine briefly many years ago and really, truly a nice guy. They still keep in touch, she invited him to her wedding but he could not make it.

Perry Farrel from Jane's Addiction/Porno for Pyros also super nice, shared some fun gossip about other musicians, had a drink with me and my friends.
