Why is there so much Indian content on Netflix now?

Interesting. I watched one show in French and now everything they suggest to me is French related. If you saw my Netflix feed, you would think that all the content is French, with a little Italian thrown in for good measure.

I think it’s just about what you have looked at and they show you more of the same.

They also have a ton of Spanish shoes, Latin American shoes etc. since all the major US companies have their own streaming service s and yanked their content off Netflix, Netflix got creative and found a new way. Same as they did when people stopped using DVDs (which was their original business). They are very agile, which I admire. And they brought us Money Heist and Derry Girls which otherwise we maybe never would have seen! It turns out there is a bunch of really interesting stuff being made outside of the US. I also recommend Occupied and Kleo.

I watched RRR and now I want more!

Same. Like tons and the only Korean thing I've ever watched is squid games.

What I really like are BBC historical dramas, but nope, Netflix isn't paying BBC for those.

It likely has to do with the the high prevalence of east, middle and west Asians at the top Ivy League schools (think Harvard Yale, and brown versus Cornell) . This is where media organizations such as Netflix hire from; Specifically the writers. People write what they know. On a sidenote, the cont is great and the writing is excellent.

One other thing you might also notice is the obnoxious references to top colleges in all shows. And even worse jabs at colleges that aren’t known to be top colleges. (just think of all of the references to Ivy League schools and comments like “I’m scared she’ll end up at a state school”. It’s really snobby and it’s absurd. This is also due to the writers coming from ivy leagues.

Is this a real question? There's Netflix all over the world and India is a gigantic producer of content.

We're not Indian but watched a bollywood movie and three times during the movie my son mentioned the beautiful female lead looked like a girl in his class, had hair like her, had eyes like her. She is an Afghani refugee so different country and culture but he saw some similarity. I could tell he had a crush and glad he could see someone similar to her as a lead. He is such an open book.

I think the international shows are the best content on Netflix right now.

Many bollywood heroines are not Indian - so your son might not be far off!

Bollywood has a lot of viewers in whole of Asia and Middle East. Bollywood (and other Indian regional cinema) churns out most movies than even Hollywood.

https://www.edudwar.com/richest-actors-in-the-world/

3 /32 richest actors are Bollywood actors. Remember that this is in dollars. Exchange rate is 1$ = 82 rupees. So someone like Jerry Seinfeld has made his entire fortune on one TV series, where as someone like SRK has made scores of movies.

Agree this is a super weird question. Do you realize that India has a population three times the size of the US? Netflix is a global company. Lots and lots of Netflix subscribers in India.

I also read that Netflix is actively trying to court Indian subscribers right now

I am Indian and I basically watch a lot of Hollywood, Bollywood, Pakistani dramas, Spanish shows (kid is taking Spanish in HS and wants to build up his language skills), Turkish serials (most good looking cast), Chinese dramas, Korean dramas.

I am cocky.

I am comfortable with all kinds of diversity. I also like to pick up other languages so right now it is Turkish phrases and Spanish. The beauty of living in this age is that you can access content from every part of the world. Why would you just watch FOX news?
