Clueless about Strollers - Would love a rec

Yes, the UPPA can accommodate the Chicco but I wouldn't call it a Snap n' Go.

We have a Snap N Go, a BOB Revolution, and a MacLaren Techno XLR, an Ergo Baby Carrier, and a Baby Bjorn. Yes, lots of gear for one kid....thanks grandmas.

Snap N Go - used a TON when our DD was still in her infant car seat. Huge Basket. Super convenient for the first few months. We used this while we decided what other stroller we wanted.

BOB - Revolution...we use 95% of the time now. Its FANTASTIC. Rolls like a dream over cobblestones, curbs, roots, sand, snow, you name it. It is practically self-propelling!

MacLaren Techno XLR - We never use it. Compared to the BOB, it's rickety, more difficult to push, and not cheap. The only times we use it are for travel, since the BOB is bigger. Honestly, I wouldn't bother with this as a full-time stroller.

We used the Baby Bjorn when our little one was smaller, but it was very uncomfortable as she got bigger and heavier. The ERGO carrier is by far superior and much more versatile.

So, my two cents: BOB Revolution (and get infant car seat adaptor) and Ergo Baby Carrier. You won't need more.

If your family is treating, then get the BOB Revolution, infant car seat adapter, and cupholders / key holder attachment. Well worth the price. it's really all you will need, and it's an AWESOME configuration. If you want something lighter weight in a year or so, then get a basic McLaren, but I would definitely go with the BOB over the others, hands down.

The Maclaren Easy Traveler frame accommodates the chicco keyfit.

I say get the Bugaboo Bee (I think I like the 2009 model better, and it's cheaper).
It weighs almost the same as the Maclaren Techno, you can use it as a snap and go, you can use the seat from infant on, baby can face you or out, it looks great, it drives like you are sliding on ice, and it's not huge and very heavy. I had an uppa baby at first and love it, but I like the Bee much better. It is definetly nimble, and you can totally steer it with one finger like they say.
Go check it out, they have them at BuyBuyBaby. Then buy it online on sale, you can prob get the 2009 model for 500 if not less.

I would get a AT stroller in addition to an umbrella stroller. They offer more shade coverage and the handling is so much better. If the big bucks are going to be spent, I would go for the new Baby Jogger City Select. It is $499 plus the car seat adaptor, but it grows with your family, so if you are planning on having any more, you just have to buy the second seat. It also has a bassinet option to keep the newborn flat and out of the car seat.

We had a bugaboo which is now practically useless as we are having #2 and need some sort of double. I wish the city select had been out then.

You'll see the difference in manueverability and smoothness of ride with the city select vs. the maclaren. An umbrella is great down the road, but we just took our 15 month old to phoenix with just the maclaren and trying to keep her protected from the sun (with more than just sunblock) was very stressful. There is not a lot of shade coverage. It's more for use in the mall. We love the bugaboo for taking the dogs for walks around Northern Va and DC.

So bottom line - We would go with the BJCS.

Seriously - you only need one stroller. Don't feel forced to buy multiple ones if you;re on a tight budget or have limited space.

I have only one stroller, a MacLaren umbrella. We could use it for our daughter from about 4 months of age. Before that we were always carrying/wearing her (I wore her almost exclusively - I was always taking public transportation because I had no access to a car during the day. Having your kid tied to your front/back is much more convenient when you're standing on a bus than carrying the kid and holding the stroller plus whatever bags/gear you're lugging.)

Newborns like being worn, they weigh almost nothing and it helps them sleep. Once the little one is 5 or 6 months old they'll want to look around more and will like a stroller.

OP, if space is at a premium then I might think twice about the BOB. I don't have one but I do live in a 2 bed condo downtown and we don't have much space either. I've seen BOBs and they look huge to me. Have you looked at the City Mini? The fold looks good and they are not too big. The basket of the City Mini also looks a good size - great if you need to go and get a few groceries or library books.

We bought a Peg Venezia and Maclaren Qwest model I think.

The Peg had the car seat attachment. Oddly, I never used this much for DC1. I just carried the car seat or took her out. She was a preemie and I didn't go out and about for much on errands. I found the Bjorn much better for grocery trips and anything where I needed to push a cart. The Peg fully reclined so I would use this for taking her on walks rather than being in the seat. DC#2 was full term and huge. I used the car seat attachment a few times but then he grew out of the infant seat. I've never understood the appeal of the snap and go.

I originally didn't like the Peg. I thought it was too fancy and this was about a year before strollers became a fashion item so spending $275 on a stroller seemed flashy to me. I did end up liking it. It lasted through 2 kids and lots of travel. The ability to face your child or turn them outward was convenient. It was good for an infant but also would accomodate a toddler/preschooler on travel trips through airports etc.

The Maclaren was lightweight but not very useful on trips. It didn't get much use.

The BabyTrend Snap N Go fits the Chicco Keyfit too.

care to share what do you mean by more versatile?
you can't carry the kid facing forward in the ergo

You need just one Stokke stroller combination: bassinet for infant, and seat for older baby, as well as adapter for car seat (but only *some* car seats are compatible!) Buy Buy Baby carries this wonderful stroller. Seems huge, but folds up completely (we live in a one bedroom), and fits in our compact car trunk. Baby can face you or the world, and is high up so eye contact and conversation are enhanced. Wheels have a very tight turn, and are exceptionally shock absorbant.

We got a City Mini when our DD was 7 months old, and it's been a great stroller, and may actually meet your requirements - not the best of all worlds, but a good compromise on all fronts. (I.e. not quite as small as an umbrella, but folds up easily so could go under the bed / in the trunk; not as smooth a push as the BOB, but still does pretty well with long walks / off roads because of the 3 wheel design, etc.) And while I'm not sure what the official manual says, it *does* work with an infant (had our newborn out in it at 2 weeks) since it reclines almost completely flat. Because of the set up of the straps it doesn't buckle perfectly tight around an infant (which I imagine would play into how old the manufacturer says the baby needs to be before you use it), but it's definitely enough to provide some restraint, and I've felt perfectly comfortable using it with my newborn.

11:20 again - just to be clear, the newborn in question is DC#2.

And for full disclosure, we've had (and used) a Snap 'n Go, City Mini, BOB Revolution, and a cheap-o umbrella stroller. But if I had to have just one stroller to meet all needs, I would go with the City Mini. (Love pushing the BOB on walks, but since I don't actually jog with it, I don't *need* it. And DH seems to actually prefer the City Mini and will preferentially take that when we walk to the stores / to the playground / etc.)

Mom to 3 DCs here and quite a few strollers. Definitely get a Snap n Go. We loved ours - which I picked up at a used baby gear sale for like $15 and latest through all 3. We also had a McLaren Techno. I actually returned that one because if the child was not in the stroller and I used the handle bars to hang stuff on, the stroller would tip over. If baby was in stroller, her weight would counter balance the bags. I found this really annoying if we were shopping and she started crying and I wanted to take her out to help her. I did have 2 Peg Peregos and I liked it. I had both a Venezia (which broke after DC2 being too heavy) and their umbrella style stroller. The Venezia could be used with a car seat (even other manufacturers w/ an attachment)
