This is generally true, IMO. The caveat I would add is that MAGA won’t vote for him OVER TRUMP. If Trump were hit by a bus tomorrow, Hogan would be vastly more viable nationally. So he has to wait and likely his window, such as it is, will close. There are a large number of conservative candidates in this position: people who would have a shot against DeSantis, but no chance against Trump.

Yup, but the Republican Party is bound and determined to put up a candidate that won’t appeal to swing voters and will struggle nationally.

I’m a registered Dem and Hogan is the only Republican I’ve ever voted for. I would love to be able to vote for him on a national level, and I’m the type of swing voter that the Republicans need, but they want to trot out Trump or DeSantis, so they will get what they deserve.

Hogan would win 1% in a primary against living Trump and 2% against other Trumpy Republicans after Trump gets hit by that bus. MAGA won’t vote for him at all.

He wouldn't be a viable Republican candidate even if the former guy ascended into heaven tomorrow.
