How big is Blair wait pool?

I would contact the coordinator and ask but it doesn't move. DC doesn't know anyone who got off the waitlist but then again DC knows few who were on the wait list.

I know of a case from last year where student was invited to the program from the wait list in very late Aug. I think technically the student list needs to be finalized first 2 weeks of the school year. Some kids start at Blair but change their mind and transfer to home school. If someone does it during the first 2 weeks of school the program can reuse the spot.

Heard no one has left the past few years.

Every girl but one we know at DC's school chose Blair over RM. Handful of very smart math team girls who did not get into Blair wound up at RM.

Wound up at RM! You make it sound like a bad second option.
Our son chose RM over Blair a few years ago due to 1.5 hr commute each way to/from Blair. Doesn't regret it.

I read somewhere on the MCPS website that at the programs that have wait pools (as opposed to waitlists), the wait pools are between 20 and 80 kids.

50 is what I was told for Blair.

At Blair “The magnet” always refers to the science math and computer science magnet. CAP is just CAP.

I know one kid who got off the waitlist very late. Coincidentally the parents kept in close contact with the magnet coordinator in the weeks before school started, checking on status and making it clear they would accept, and then a place opened up.

I think the kid was local.

DC has a couple friends who applied and were accepted at both but ultimately chose RM. Not because they think it's better but because they're less STEM focused.
