I'll cut to the chase: child got waitlisted at Blair magnet and we're trying to evaluate their chances. What's the ballpark number for waitlisted students: 50? 75? 100? Is it a lottery from then on or do they have a ranking system?
Any help would be appreciated! |
| It conveniently doesn't say. I think it's pretty big. I wouldn't count on getting in. We got waitlisted too. |
| It's not a ranked wait pool. The admissions officials supposedly review the whole wait pool again when spots open up, and they do that in several waves. |
| Since it is a highly competitive program that everyone that was invited seems to want to go, the wait pool rarely gets any movement. At least, that was the case last year. I believe last year it was less than a handfull of kids got in from the waitlist, maybe 3-4. |

It’s definitely more than that. most of the girls got accepted to both Blair and RM will choose Blair over RM. at least more than a handful in our school.
|
| I meant choose RM over Blair |
| OP here. Thanks, everyone! Oh, well, life goes on! |
| Which magnet - the STEM or CAP? |
|
Also, every year the magnet programs admit WAY more than the program holds bc they know people are getting multiple acceptances and they can only choose one program.
So it’s not like if there were 100 seats, for the first round they only admit 100 kids and see what those people decide and then start round 2 wave of admittance. In reality, they actually admit like 130-140 kids and maybe 95 say yes. Leaving 5 seats for the wait pool. |
No one calls CAP “Blair magnet”. |
| Last year the wait pool was closed very early, much earlier than the other schools. The coordinator sent out a letter saying they were at capacity. |
Let me get this straight, the coordinator sent out a letter to students who were on the wait list and then rejected because of the wait pool's closing? If so, I think it's a thoughtful gesture, at least, people know where they stand other than being left hanging. |
| When do we know the list is closed? Does anyone know how many kids finally were admitted from the wait list? |
Typically 800 kids apply and 100 make the cut. My best guess is less than 700, but to my knowledge, there's little movement. |
Every girl but one we know at DC's school chose Blair over RM. Handful of very smart math team girls who did not get into Blair wound up at RM. |
