We got in a month after my kid started at private HS. And I agree. We decided to keep him in the private.

Madeira is 54k a year and admissions is closed - almost all of the mainstream private school admissions deadlines for 2023-2024 have passed. It looks like Bishop O’Connell is still acceptable applications, even though their deadline passed (according to their website). But you need to take the HSPT for admissions and it looks like all the testing dates have passed. I would send your daughter to Yorktown and try again for 2024-2025.

Even schools that are closed will look at a late application for right student. Call around and don’t listen to this board other than school descriptions. I do think O’Connell is a great school and would agree to look there. Look also at SJC. Maybe consider St Stephens because they take in a lot of Arlington kids. Not sure you could get FA this late but maybe you could get your child a spot and file for FA next year. Potomac/NCS/Sidwell are pressure cookers so would avoid those schools if you know your child doesn’t do well with stress.

OP can absolutely call around, but she shouldn’t be given false hope - it’s HIGHLY unlikely that these schools will accept her child based on a late application (barring her child being an Olympian or some other crazy hook). St. Joseph’s College High School, like Bishop O’Connell, requires the HSPT. St. St. Stephens St. Agnes requires the SSAT. Our private HS (not any of these schools we are discussing) said it had a record number of applications this year.

NP how would you know though. Did they ever actually attend it?

Pfft. There is a reason they call it the Big4 now.

I have one at HB and one at private. HB is awesome, especially for the factors OP mentioned (small classes, nurturing environment). If my other kid had gotten in, I would have pulled them from private to go.

O'Connell still accepting applications due to plenty of space

How do you know HBW is not all that? Did you have students there and then you left?

There’s a reason O'Connell has plenty of space.

Take a look at Washington Waldorf. We commute there from Arlington, and it meets your criteria.
