Unicorn private school

We are in Arlington and did not get into the lottery program we applied for. The neighborhood HS is not a good fit for my daughter. Is there a private school that has small class sizes, is nurturing, and not the pressure cooker that so many Nova schools are? Perhaps that won't break the bank? Greatly appreciate anyone's experience!

Sycamore? It's in Arlington and might fit your needs- tuition isn't cheap but it's a little less than many of the private high schools.

Sycamore is the answer. Also, check Field. Not cheap but hits your other boxes and many Arlington kids.

Bishop O’Connell fits this description. We are there as a non-Catholic family.

OP, check the schools to make sure they accept late applications. The admissions deadline has passed for many schools.

The Sycamore School has rolling admissions but some grades may be full for '23-'24 school year

+1. The New School of Northern Virginia.

I agree about Sycamore, New School, and Field. Maybe add Burke to your list. You may qualify for financial aid.

Madeira, depending on the size of your bank.

New School. As far as O’Connell, if your only concern is literally class size, it’s fine, but if you also want smaller overall numbers of kids, no. It’s huge.

C’mon, OP. HB Woodlawn really ain’t all that. Your neighborhood school is just fine.

Madeira is 54k a year and admissions is closed - almost all of the mainstream private school admissions deadlines for 2023-2024 have passed. It looks like Bishop O’Connell is still acceptable applications, even though their deadline passed (according to their website). But you need to take the HSPT for admissions and it looks like all the testing dates have passed. I would send your daughter to Yorktown and try again for 2024-2025.
