Where to get a tween’s ears pierced?

If you are in MoCo, Bethesda Tattoo.

Tattoo parlor for sure. Took my 6 year old there (versus Claire’s) and the lady was fantastic with her. I think the needle works a bit better than the gun.

FWIW, maybe not the pediatrician because our ped said he rarely does them.

Another vote for a tattoo parlor – but anywhere they don't use a gun is better than claires. Piercing guns can't be sterilized, which should be enough to turn you off of anywhere that uses them completely.

I had made an appointment at Craig Pokes U in Arlington, but my daughter got sort of skittish as we walked up the stairs (which were covered in flash tattoo drawings of skulls, flames, etc.). The piercer saw that she was hesitant and yelled, "I won't pierce someone who doesn't want to be pierced". At that point she cried and we left. We went to a Piercing Pagoda later that day and she did fine. They wouldn't refund the $30 for the appointment, either.

My daughter went to Claire’s two weeks ago and it was fine. So far no infections

This place was pricey, but great for kids. It’s run by twin sisters. They used a numbing gel and they pierce both ears at the same time. Made the experience much easier.

They appear to use a piercing gun which is not sterile. Gross!

I wanted to take my kid there too and am worried about exactly this. The decor and the weirdness.

My ten year old and 7 year old both want there ears pierced and I've been looking at most Tattoo/Piercing Parlors and they won't do kids under 10 or some are even older. Brillance in Vienna used to get recommended a lot but I think they are now 13 for a minimum. ABout to give up and just got to the Piercing Pagoda. 7 year old might be freaked at at a Tattoo/Piercing Joint anyway.

Two things:

A - it was good of them to keep the deposit. Too many people flake out on their artists and its lost income. The deposit is for the appointment, not the service.

B - there are TONS of tattoo and piercing places in the DMV that have bright, clean and welcoming designs. I don't know why everyone gets caught up in Craig Poke U, but I see him recommended all the time. But there are enough places that feel more like a hair salon than a tattoo/piercing parlor

Can you recommend any of those clean and bright places that won’t scare kids?

If you’re close to anne arundel county check out freyja piercing. It’s piercing only, no weird decor, and super clean. I think they pierce kids as young as 5.

I took my 6 year old to get her ears pierced at Craig Pokes U about a month ago. They only do piercing. There was no weird decor - not sure what the previous poster was talking about - we didn't walk up any stairs at all, let alone ones with skulls. It's not a large place or fancy and I wouldn't say it's like a hair salon, but it was clean and they were very patient and talked my daughter through the process. We are happy with the results.
