Would you tip for...

Yes I definitely tip for furniture delivery and a treadmill counts as furniture. It's probably even heavier than most furniture items.

We tipped the men who delivered our treadmill.

ICYMI: they won’t get paid the $199 delivery fee you prepaid. Their employer gets that money.

Right, they will get something from the employer called a wage.

Enough is enough.

We would definitely tip for that.

It’s a lot of work hauling a treadmill through a house. I tipped $20 15 years ago when I got mine and I’m not normally a big tipper.

OP here. Are you sure that's always the case? There were various shipping options: free curbside, $99 doorway, $199 room of choice, then $350 for assembly. Even with various tiers, the business gets it all??

The business gets it all and the employees are paid an hourly wage.

An hourly wage based on the expectation they will move treadmills. They are not doing something special for you. The company covers the truck, the gas, the insurance.

They also provide the work. The movers could start there own company and keep the whole amount but they would have to cover all the expenses of owning a business and also advertise to bring in business.

I hope they only offer post office delivery in your neighborhood. Go pick it up.

Would you still tip if....

The delivery driver calls and asks: "Hi, is there someone at your home that can help bring this inside? If not, I'll have to call another driver to hopefully come assist, which would be about an hour later than your window."

Note, this is the 3rd scheduled delivery failure, due to no fault of my own and having to take time off work.

I agree you all are right that I should tip, but if I'm paying $200 to bring the thing inside, don't be late, and don't call me expecting me to be your 2nd person! On the 3rd scheduled delivery date!

Wow. That is not a reasonable request.

Would I still tip the delivery driver? Yes.
Sounds like his company was trying to get the full $199 AND have you partake in the work.
Unless the driver is also the owner and scheduler, I would not fault him.

If this is your 3rd scheduled date, I would consider not giving a good score or review on their survey if they send one.

What's the delivery fee for, then? No tip.

$199 to load it on a truck and drive it from the store to my house?

No, the fee included placement in 1 room. No tip needed.

Same.
Anonymous
I've give $10 each.

They are paid a better than minimum wage hourly rate. I am so sick of the over the top tipping culture.
Anonymous
Yes. $10 to $20 each depending on how long it takes and if they ding a wall.
Anonymous
No.

As long as people keep tipping on top of $200 delivery fee, nothing will change and companies keep charging full delivery fees, but not paying the workers fairly.

I have been tipping any and all furniture
delivery folks my entire adult life--so 27 years.
I learned this from my parents.
I don't think there is anything "enough is enough" or new about tipping these kinds of workers.
I still tip my pizza driver even though I am charged a 2.99 delivery fee.
