Kids being followed home

The police put out a press release last week about 2 suspicious vehicles but didn’t provide much in the way of details. It includes a number to call if you see anything suspicious.

That is alarming. Maybe the school bus should drop the kids off right at their doors and wait until they're inside the house until these threats have passed? I've seen spEd school buses do this.

or have a police escort at these stops.

that's a good idea to have the students run the other direction and to get help.
if they have phones/cameras/keys, these targeted students should have these in hand before getting off the bus.

definitely the first priority is for them to keep away from these perps.

please post other safety tips if anyone else has them

Safety patrols seem to have disappeared. This used to be a thing and having safety patrols walk with the younger kids from the bus stop to their homes seems like something feasible.

So Scary.

No. Tell your kids to get away immediately. Do not stick around pulling out your phone and taking pictures. Why risk someone deciding they need to get that evidence away from the kid?

I see kids with phones in their hand all the time. If the kid has a phone, they are holding it. It is easy to start recording, even as you get out of Dodge.

All good ideas, but mostly suspect that CCMD has just gone downhill in recent years based on these stories.

FTR, my kid is an MCPS Safety Patrol. She’s a small 11 year old fifth grader. She’s a good kid, but there is not much that she could do if someone tried to abduct a younger kid.

that's what I'm saying.

Of course don't stick around.. but while they are pulling away, they can quickly take a pix ... IF they can.

When such scares have happened in the past they have been almost always the result of panic and misunderstanding. I don’t believe that these incidents were all nefarious or even that they all happened until there is widespread media coverage and warnings.

A dad at our elementary bus stop told me his daughter was being followed/obviously stared at. The girl was standing waiting for the bus and the dad was a bit off to the side and thinks the guy didn't realize he was there. This was in Gaithersburg in the AM. The area is usually busy in the afternoon but not as much in the morning.

The latest incident with a BCC high school is the most serious so far.

So you think the kids are lying? What kind of ‘misunderstanding’ is it when an adult male stranger asks a minor to get into his car? What exactly do you think the girl ‘misunderstood’?

Nice gaslighting.
