Kids being followed home

In my immediate neighborhood there have been several (5-6) recent situations where ES or MS kids were followed home from school or the bus stop or approached by strangers asking them to get into their car. Is anyone else seeing an uptick in these encounters?

I heard from a friend in Chevy Chase MD that this happened over there, and DH read about someone else in Woodacres. The one in CC they said it was a Suburban (maybe grey) caught on a neighbor's ring but no plate shown. The Woodacres one said it was a silver car.

Very, very unsettling.

No, and this is frightening! What neighborhood and where are you hearing this from. Do you have a description of a car or anything that could be useful?

I’m sorry, but these types of posts are not helpful unless they have actual useful information. Otherwise it’s either fear mongering, or a flat out lie.

OP. CCMD. One of the incidents was a silver truck and the driver was wearing a ski mask (that's not sketchy at all...). Another was a silver sedan. And some have been pedestrians following and trying to engage the kids.

Police were called.

The silver truck/ski mask guy was all over this morning - in Bethesda and CCMD. Heard of three separate incidents.

I'm 15:47. Both of the incidents I described happened in the last 2 months or so. The one in CCMD was at a school bus stop and the bus stop has since been moved (thanks to my friend, who raised hell with MCPS) to a less quiet part of the neighborhood.

The one in Woodacres was, I think, along the Mass Ave service road. DH read about it on FB or Nextdoor.

Silver Nissan Altima driven by man with ski mask.

Followed kids from Woodacres ES and either Chevy Chase or North Chevy Chase ES (the email I received was sent by CC but might possibly have involved N. CC since it's a CES center and kids come from all around).

I have heard of only these two incidents. The one posted on Nextdoor today was actually just someone late to the party resending an earlier report.

No. Tell your kids to get away immediately. Do not stick around pulling out your phone and taking pictures. Why risk someone deciding they need to get that evidence away from the kid?

This is what we got today from our principal:

The first occurrence was last week where a man wearing a ski mask and driving a silver pick up truck followed three of our students on their walk home from the bus stop. This incident happened several days in a row. The boys shared the information with their families and the police were called.

The second occurrence was yesterday where a female student was walking home. An older man, gray hair wearing a blue and yellow jacket followed her closely for six blocks. The police were also called. All students are safe.

MCPS Security was notified. The MCPD are investigating through neighborhood cameras.

Really important to train kids that if this happens, they should immediately run in the opposite direction from where the car is going, and towards anywhere people are. It's harder for someone to turn a car around than it is for a pedestrian to pivot on foot.
