Technically, experience factors are qualifying for FARMS, special education students, etc. But they do force students to include their race to apply. Why collect that data at all on the application? |

Except the selection committee doesn't know the race of the applicant because that would be illegal if they did you could bring a multimillion dollar suit and win |

Math+Science+History+English. If your child is scoring A grade 93-100% then GPA will be 4.0 |

This is incorrect, GPA is based on Raw score hence someone with 98% score will have higher GPA then student with 93% despite both have same grade. Avergae GPa needed for admission to TJ is 3.995 in 2022 |

DP. What a relief then. We'll just write TJ off. DS doesn't have that. The 7th grade transition has been more than he was expecting, not helped by some unexpected external issues. |

No. The original post was correct. Anything between 93%-100% (really, anything between 92.5%-100%, since they round up) is an A and is worth 4.0. 3.5 is the minimum GPA required to be eligible to apply to TJ. In practice, since only 20% or fewer of applicants are admitted, we would expect that admitted applicants would on average have a much higher GPA than 3.5. That said, the new admissions procedures are designed to ensure that every school has admittees and that those with experience factors are given bonus points, som there will likely be students who are minimally eligible and are admitted. It might thus be premature to write it off for your DS. |

if this is correct then almost alll the kids who got in (TJ stated 3.995 average GPA for admitted student for 2022) has to have 4.0 GPA with very few having GPA of 3.7. What is making the difference? Essay/ alone? Considering, how essay is dumb down and Student portrait sheet probably same for all kids, they are going to have 3,000+ applicants with same score/rank!! Only differentiator is if you are FARM kid. What a mess!! |

3.995 GPA would mean something like all As and just 10 Bs among the entire class for their entire transcript. |

In AAP class, this would be very easy. Almost 40% would have straight A's |

Yep, but actually, the released GPA for kids admitted to TJ in the last few years has been 3.95 and not 3.995. Most of the kids would still have a 4.0, but there's much more room for some A- or B grades among admitted kids. |

| While it is true that the essay is very simple, what I heard is it’s not the correct answer (I believe 80-90% of kids will get that) but any out of the box, unique assumptions that you can add. It will make it stand out, even though it may not have the correct answer. Source is a friend whose kid got admitted last year. They had the question on punnet squares. Her kid fumbled at the answer but came up wit a story and really unique reasoning and got in. Their friends who wrote the correct answer were not admitted. |

You know that is false. A “winning” essay is about how your parents were farm workers from Latin America but you overcame adversity to apply to TJ. Or may show you became president of the BIPOC after school club. But if your essay focuses on how you learned Mandarin, mastered the violin, or speak fluent Hindi, then you will not be selected. “experience factors” |
