This is DCUM. What in the world do you expect. Please, please go somewhere else if DC posts don’t resonate with you.

Congrats to Zients. He has a real shot at President down the line if he wants it

As Chief of Staff, Zients will be the Head of the Executive Office of the US and the highest member of the President's Cabinet. For people who don't care much about politics, it's the equivalent of being Hand of the King in Game of Thrones (i.e. Tyrion Lannister, smart and influential but not in the spotlight). It's awesome to see someone from St. Albans make it all the way to the top in such a crowded field!

❤️ the GOT reference, specific to Tyrion.

I think Zients was one of the few kids from the middle class when he was at STA. Also a Jewish kid when there were not many Jewish kids there. Everyone I know who knew him said he worked his rear end off and has worked hard all his days. He apparently always wanted to buy the Marriott’s house in DC when he was a kid and then grew up and did it. Those kinds of people should be applauded for entering government service. He could be pursuing more cash instead.

The reflected glory was a bit heavy-handed here, even for the DC private school crowd.

100% agree. He’s a superstar plain and simple, the more minds like his that we have in public sector the better. All too often the sharpest minds stick to private sector. But he’s already got the $$$, a PP said he was in Fortune’s richest 40 people under 40. He has hundreds of millions in the bank so hopefully he’s not another revolving door politician. I don’t know how active he’s stayed with STA though (on the other he seems to stay very involved with Duke).

Oh great, another privileged near-billionaire in the WH.

The thread is cringe. It's typical Washington behavior, however, which is to highlight someone in a position that's supposedly intended to help the general public (i.e., given the Biden Administration's purported policy goals) in a way that ultimately is all about having power, money, and access.

That’s great. Congrats to him. Btw there still are not many Jewish kids at STA btw. Only 1 boy who is being raised as Jewish in my son’s class.

So happy finally an STA person is being recognized for an administration besides Trump’s. Lots of Trump families at STA and several were in his admin.

Whoops, meant to quote this. But yea Zients was middle class and was known as an incredibly hard worker, hardly privileged.
