Average savings per month

HHI $240k with 2 kids.

We put about $3500/month in 401k and just upped to $1400 a month in kids' 529 and have just $1200k savings after that.

Inevitably, something unanticipated comes up every month though. Roof leak. Medical/dental bill. It never ends.

$5k is after 401ks/529s/monthly expenses/etc..

Nice

$8400 per mo on $428k of gross earnings. This includes 401K;s, deferred comp, brokerage etc. We are on the back nine of our careers.

So you’re living off one salary basically and saving the other. That’s tough to do in the DMV.

About $4k per month. HHI 200k.

Not necessarily "a lot". What is the HHI?

Anything is better than nothing and thousands of dollars each month is good.

I'm single/no kids, make $190k and save about $3500 a month between retirement and other cash savings. I also take home about $24k in bonus each yeah and put about $20k of that in to savings. So $4k doesn't seem like a ton between two income earners.

I saved $12,500 a month last year of $360,000 net income. Spent $210k for the year. Saved 42% of our net.

This is after my taxes. $60k for the house, $40k for daycare, $100k on the rest. Are these good numbers? I think so.

This is us. Not counting 401ks.

Horseshit. Unless you are childless and your favorite hobby is sitting at home with your thumb up your ass.

odd response. kids are grown/out of college... we are still working, not big spenders. no mortgage, monthly cc bill about 2500, annual tax about 5500 per year (about 500 per month). yes, if you want to split hair, we do make about 350 (vs 300). our take home after all the deductions is around 16k.

So, no mortgage, no young kids, and actually make $50K more. Way to bury the lede.

Our automatic monthly savings including retirement, brokerage, and 529 is $5k, and then we aim to average $1000-$3000 extra savings monthly depending on what’s going on in life. $350k HHI, two young kids, so after care and summer camp are still significant expenses. Otherwise only monthly debt is $2k mortgage and $600 student loan.

Last year we charged and paid off $150k on a single credit card (including some major home project stuff), so trying to make this year one of reduced spending.

We make around 300k and bring home about ~$14,000 per month (of course this is after funding retirement, paying taxes, and benefits). I have no idea how we could have a mortgage and pay for childcare plus save 10k. Not to mention food! I wish we were saving more, but we save about $1-2k/month and then keep having to dip into it when the inevitable comes up. We’re spending nearly 3k/month on childcare for 2 kids though, so I keep telling myself we’ll have more cushion once that is done and can also re-route a portion of that to 529s.
