Serving beef stew--what to serve on the side?

OP here. Thanks for the replies. Dinner's tonight! Going with a side salad. And to the aghast poster, I had no idea serving beef stew in the middle of January is giving your guests short shrift!

Maybe they are poor + have a big family. (I was 1 of 8 kids + my mom sometimes made it. I never ate it).

Then you weren't that poor. I grew up poor and ate anything that was served. You never knew when you might eat next.
