Personal experience with Tirzepatide (Mounjaro)

I literally can go a couple of hours without eating, and when I do eat it is half the amount I usually ate. I am pleased with the drug thus far. My only concern is once I reach my goal weight. Will I have to take a maintenance dose and for how long? I don't want to stay on this medicine forever.

Yes it is a lifelong medication for weight loss. Your doctor should have told you this. Once you are off the medication your body will want to return to your previous weight and your hunger will come back.

Will I still have to do the once a week shot or could I space it out to once every 2 or 3 weeks? Also, is there a recommended maintenance dosage (7.5 mg vs 10 mg, etc.) or does that depend on the person?

I don't think that the jury is out on whether everyone will need to take it indefinitely. For some people, once they get the weight off, they can continue lifestyle changes that will help them maintain. For others, who have had lifelong weight issues, they may need to take it forever if they want to keep the pounds off.

I'm the OP and have been off of Mounjarno for 3 weeks now, largely because I can't get my Rx filled unless I pay $1K. I have definitely noticed the appetite suppression is over but I am going to try to keep the weight off by watching my diet and exercising regularly. I am working with my doctor to see if I should start Wegovy if weight starts creeping back.

OP, thanks for sharing your experience. I am paying a little over $500 for my prescription, and I can't imagine paying that price per month for the rest of my life. I was thinking about switching over to another drug too once I get to my goal weight on Mounjaro.

I have both Wegovy and Mounjaro prescriptions sitting at CVS but at $1100 a pop I just can’t do it. So frustrating.

I have been on Mounjaro since August and have dropped over 50 lbs. I feel FANTASTIC. My experience is very similar to OP's. Minimal side effects. This is not a miracle but makes it easier for me to do what I know I need to do to lose. Would definitely recommend giving it a try.

Buy a secondary insurance online that will cover one or both. Much cheaper than 13k out of pocket

Congrats, OP. Glad you are feeling and doing better. In addition to the health benefits, this probably makes parenting a lot more enjoyable for you and your kids. I wish my husband would consider it

How much does diabetes cost? A heart attack? A funeral?

Any recommendations for the secondary insurance?

Did your doctor make you try ozempic before giving Mounjaro? I have type 2 diabetes and need to lose weight. Wondering if they’re the same or is Mounjaro better?

Did you experience hair loss?

If it is this much then what do you plan on doing long term?

Seriously question because all the studies show that patients who take these drugs and go off eventually regain the weight.

It has made parenting more enjoyable!
My husband was very wary but I think that he is going to talk to his doctor, especially since Wegovy is now covered through our insurance.
