Lower middle class family of 4

You FEEL poor from reading this forum and possibly comparing yourself to others.
We make the same as you and have everything we really need without debt. I have a friend with the same income and they are constantly in debt/borrowing money. I have other friends with a LOT more and some with less.
You might have a budgeting problem. Quit reading this website if it's really bothering you.

Haha. I know LMC means your house is worth way less than $200k total.

We brought our home for 330k it’s now worth 550k.

Bet it means after maxing 401Ks, etc. so gross is closer to 160.

The DMV warps your sense of money, and what "middle class" means. When you look at people and think "wow, they have a single family home with a mortgage, they must be incredibly rich," it's kind of weird. And the house they own is a total fixer upper or one of those squat DMV 1970s split levels past owners tried to "do up" by adding Greek-style columns to the front of the house.

You have to remind yourself this isn't how most people live in the United States. A family income of $120,000 is good, but not in places like DC. To live comfortably middle class in the DMV, a family of four needs to bring in $250,000/year.

This thread is insulting to anyone who ever was actual working poor or lower middle class.

2 pages and only one real answer to OP's question, other than dog walking.

There are plenty of lower paid job openings, especially in food service, but are you willing to give up family time for it?

Some retail stores like Target or Home Depot seem to be hiring, too.

Or babysitting.

Teacher here. My gross is about $80k but I net maybe $55k or so (I'm behind in retirement so I'm trying to catch up). I tutor, babysit, and do household help on evenings and weekends.

What skills do you have? How much time do you have available for a side job?
I have a side job as a delivery driver: I do grubhub and Uber eats on some evenings and weekends.

Tips, dude. Obviously.

Ask for a little extra salary from your current employers. Or look for jobs that pay more. I get that $110 feels like not enough. It felt like not enough when my family made it. We looked for higher paying jobs.

Since these class obsessed fu@ktard$ can’t answer your question, I will.

You can make a lot of money getting on rover doing in Home dog boarding.

We are working poor as well (HHI $90K), but we’re also too old to get jobs. We’ve tried for about a year, but we just can’t pull it off. We’re actually living on interest income only and not even working, technically, and I’m not sure that is sustainable.
