Lead time for an appointment at Shady Grove?

The process of having your consultation, getting your baseline bloodwork, deciding on which course of action to take, and then taking that course of action takes several months. The lead time for getting an appointment is pretty trivial in the grand scheme of things.

I think that what this person meant is that getting started with fertility treatments/testing can be a slow process since everything revolves around your body's cycles. if you get too stressed about every one week (or even one month) delay, you will drive youself crazy. I had to constantly repeat to myself "it's a marathon not a sprint." In any case, I had consults at SG, GW and Dominion and don't remember ever waiting more than a couple weeks. The only looooong wait that I had was when I went up to Cornell and it took more than two months to get an appt with the hot-shot doctor there. But hey, it worked for both me and Celine Dion!

The first time I called Shady Grove's DC office (in March 2008), I told them I wanted to make an appointment in 2 months, and that worked fine. Then I had insurance issues that dragged on for the next year and a half that kept me from pursuing treatment.

The second time I called -- July 2009 -- they'd just had a cancellation and I got an appointment w/ Dr. Nair for later that week.

Every time I've called Shady Grove -- and as we did IVF in the fall, it was a lot -- I always found that whomever is answering the phone/scheduling the appointments was nice and flexible. I bounced back & forth between the Rockville & DC offices all the time, and it was never a problem. Good luck!
