Lead time for an appointment at Shady Grove?

Anonymous
I'm not quite ready to go through my first appointment to have things checked out (planning to try for a few more months) but I wondered how long it takes to get an initial appointment? I'd hate to try for a few more months only to then have to wait for a few more months to get an appointment. My preference is to go to the offices in either DC or Rockville. Can you make an appointment with a specific doctor or are you assigned someone to work with? I've heard great things about Widra and Levy.

You do make an appt with a specific doctor. Widra and Levy are both good, but I would say Levy over Widra from my personal experience. You can always have Levy as your doc and do monitoring in DC if it is more convenient for you. Sometimes it can take 3-4 weeks to get a new patient appt with any good RE. I would suggest calling the DC or Rockville office and asking the average lead time for a new patient appt with the doc you choose, so that you can plan ahead for when you are ready to cycle. Good luck!!

It took me about a month to get an appointment with Widra in DC last spring. He is great and I have been very happy with him (got pg!). You are smart to go ahead and schedule an appointment. You can always cancel if things change. Good luck.

Which Dr. in SG, Annandale did u see? And who is your nurse? I have my appointment next week with dr. Greenhouse; and am kind of scared..

it was dr. garde, who is now in the woodbridge office. during my last 3.5 years, i had 3 nurses all of whom have left.

i was scared, too, and quite overwhelmed after the appointment. but after i digested all the info, it was fine.

I can't remember how long it took to get an appointment, I think it can really vary from 2 weeks or more. Being flexible to meet your doctor at a different office is helpful too. I know for one appt. with Dr. Greenhouse where I really wanted my husband to be able to make it, we went out to the Fair Oaks office.

Dr. Greenhouse is GREAT. I was scared too, but he is very thorough about all of the testing he has you do before making any kind of diagnosis. He is not only an excellent doctor, he is kind to his patients, and is available by email for questions when you start freaking out.

He was very honest about our chances and options and took into consideration what we wanted at every step. He calls you within a few days of an IUI or IVF to see how you are doing.

I didn't have a good experience at Annandale, the receptionist is rude, and the first nurse that was assigned to me was really slow to respond and gave me the worng information on at least two occasions. I go to the Fair Oaks office for my monitoring and it seems a bit better, but the whole process has been really stressful.

I got a first appt with Widra withing two weeks. I didn't get pregnant with him, but I still think he's basically a good RE and was very open and honest with us. He also always called us back right away and at one point even gave us his home phone number.

i agree abt the receptionist. she's rude and doesn't have a good attitude at all. not nice to see that at 6.45 am.

The process of having your consultation, getting your baseline bloodwork, deciding on which course of action to take, and then taking that course of action takes several months. The lead time for getting an appointment is pretty trivial in the grand scheme of things.

It's a significant FIRST step for someone deciding to go this path.

I didn't want to waste any time.....I just went with whoever was first available....I figured they had to be 10x better than my gyno. I got an appointment to see Dr. Sagoskin within 2 weeks at the Rockville location. Now I am 30 weeks along after 2 months of treatment Shady Grove rules!
