They err on the side of caution with weather delays and closings and if it actually really snows a lot, you won’t get plowed right away
Grades are on the very normal 10 point scale

I don’t know or care about what kind of unusual things they do in random other states or towns. A 92 is not a B and we are not trick or treating on a random Sunday. Keep it simple!

Simple things can be complicated when resources are limited.

People will find things to complain about. Even trivia like this.

90/80/70 is pretty standard across the US, though some teachers (not in MCPS) institute a curve that is idiosyncratic to the class.

As a pp said, a different model is to add pluses and minuses, in which case a 93 cutoff is pretty common though that is less well defined across schools/districts/states.

Is it going to be the same in high school? I am confused - is GPA 4.0 in MCPS or some other county presenting the same level of grade?

Don't worry - whatever an A is, at MCPS your DC will have the chance to take tests over and over again until they get the score they want/need.

What is really wrong with this? They have mastered the material either way.

Plus, unlimited retakes is a more equitable approach, which our system desperately needs.

They've been phasing this out since a return to non-pandemic teaching. My kids at Whitman are only given an occasional re-take opportunity in Math, if the entire class tanked the test, it wasn't every test and it wasn't other subjects.
