Yoga for man

I posted above who started at over 320 lbs. I was exactly where you are regular professional just looking to better myself but knew my body was unbelievably tight and just wanted to be able to move a little better.

Make a goal of going 5 times, after the third class you will feel a lot more comfortable and continuing will be a breeze. Don’t sell yourself short, you will get a lot more out of going in person and supplementing and substituting (when on travel or super busy) with YouTube .

And forgot to add don’t be discouraged by the ignorant statements on here about how woman in classes will view you. Just like life your actions will dictate that.

It varies. I took a class for several years with Linda Howard in Baltimore. The class had several men who took it regularly and her substitute teacher is male.

Maybe start by seeking out male teachers? Phillip Bender does meditation and yoga classes in the DC area, and might be a good person to approach with your questions.

Also, consider looking at Tai Chi as well as yoga. It might meet your needs, and might have a balance of students that would work for you.

I'm in YTT right now and it's about half men. Not a trace of toxic masculinity, fwiw. The men drawn to yoga tend to be more emotionally intelligent and respectful, in my experience. I've had several really amazing and trauma informed male teachers.

OP, slow flow classes are a good place to start. Don't worry about the positions (asanas), that's not really what yoga is about.

Oh dear god. I go to a hot studio on the regular and it’s at least 1/3 men every single class. It’s no big deal, OP. Just jump in.

Just wear tshirt and loose pants or shorts with liners. I know it’s a double standard, but men can’t get away with tank tops. For anything at the gym.

Wut? You can wear whatever kind of top you want. Nobody cares.

Do you belong to a YMCA or other community-type gym? In my experience, they have very little attitude and are usually diverse in terms of gender and race.

I can look into this. But I have no interest in getting involved in mean girl culture one PP mentioned above. I just want to work on my fitness. YouTube Yoga Adriene seems to be good as I want to improve my flexibility.

I go to Golds Gym, and every yoga class I've ever gone to has had male participants. It's not unusual, and no one cares. Golds Gym Baileys (and Rosslyn, I think) has some virtual instructor classes, including Body Balance, which is Les Mills' yoga class. I started with those, and it was a great way to get into yoga.
