My 2-year dog gets up around 8:30, eats, and goes back to bed for an hour or two.
My kinda schedule |
My dogs are similar. They start bugging us for food around 7:00 on weekdays. They seem to know to be patient on weekends, and can wait until 8:00 or so. After they eat and go out, they nap for a few more hours. |

My 6 year old dog is like a college student - she'd sleep all day. My old boy (he's about 13) is up by 6-6:30 because he can't hold it. Hearing him, my other dog begrudgingly staggers out of her bed just to make sure she's not missing any food. If she sees he just got let outside, she doesn't even go to the door to go out with him. She gets right up on the couch and sleeps for a few more hours!
I think you can't compare either puppies or senior dogs to the everyday habits of younger adult dogs. They just don't have the same control. |
| Our dog gets up whenever I get up. He gets a walk no later than 10 hours after his last one, which is usually last walk 11:30pm, first walk 9am on weekdays, or last walk 2am first walk 11am weekends. |
My 8 year old dog goes 10pm and then again at 7am weekdays. Weekend she can hold it until 8:30am then stars barking. I'm surprise that at only 13 weeks your puppy stays in the crate until 6am with no "accidents". Don't be lazy and consider yourself lucky you don't get up at 6am with a mess! |
| My dog gets up when I get up. If she's awake before me, she just snuggles up till I'm ready. If I get out of bed at 2 PM, so does she. |
| My lab thinks about food 24/7. We feed him at 6:30AM every day. He relocates to be closer to us about two hours prior to that and stares us down about 30 minutes prior. |

Our 3 year old big mutt goes to bed when we do and wakes up when we do. Sometimes later. My last dog was like that too.
We dog sat for dogs recently who pounced on us at 6am and wouldn’t chill out until they’d been walked and fed (backyard wasn’t good enough). I think a lot of that was probably just habits that had become ingrained but man it was annoying. And I’m a morning person! |
My guess is OP has only had this dog for a week. Maybe this dog will just acclimate to the crate easily, but also maybe she will start rebelling tomorrow. 13 weeks is nothing and OP has a long road ahead. I hope they realize that (guessing they do if they have a 12 year old dog but it's easy to forget how hard puppies are, and also maybe they didn't have that dog as a puppy). Puppies are exhausting. |
| My dogs have always slept until whatever I get up. I’m on the third one so I’m of the opinion that this is a training thing. I never allowed them to “wake me” except for poop emergencies so I don’t think they had the idea that they could. |
| My 16 year old dog last goes out around 10 and then gets up between 6-6:30, but doesn’t go out until about 7. |
So you don’t care if it pees on the floor? |
I'm a different PP who said that my dog gets up when I get up, whenever that is. My dog is pee pad trained. If she really needs to go, she hops off the bed and goes, and then she comes back. But she almost never does that, because she likes snoozing and cuddling as much as I do. |
Same with my old man beagle. Unfortunately the household gets up at 6 during the week days so he often still wakes around then on the weekends because he’s been thinking about breakfast from the moment he finished dinner the night before. |
