Trying to figure out what’s typical. Our 12 year old Tibetan terrier is pretty self sufficient. He sleeps where he wants, takes himself out in the backyard, and doesn’t much seem to care whether he eats his breakfast at 6am or 9am. Our 13 week old lab puppy is in a crate in our bedroom. She sleeps well from about 10:30/11pm through about 6am. Once 6am hits, she whines in her crate and we take her out so she can pee and have her breakfast. We know this is typical for puppies, but it’s tiring! Will this get better as she gets older? Would be great for her to learn from her big brother a bit. :)
My 8 year old dog goes 10pm and then again at 7am weekdays. Weekend she can hold it until 8:30am then stars barking. I'm surprise that at only 13 weeks your puppy stays in the crate until 6am with no "accidents". Don't be lazy and consider yourself lucky you don't get up at 6am with a mess!
My guess is OP has only had this dog for a week. Maybe this dog will just acclimate to the crate easily, but also maybe she will start rebelling tomorrow. 13 weeks is nothing and OP has a long road ahead. I hope they realize that (guessing they do if they have a 12 year old dog but it's easy to forget how hard puppies are, and also maybe they didn't have that dog as a puppy). Puppies are exhausting.
