Disengaging from parents when an only child?

I used to send my mom what I called ""F U flowers, " and it totally worked to shut her up for extended amounts of time.

Oh but wait. I did not mean this flippantly. I mean, before I cut my mom off completely, I used to send her flowers for birthdays and Mothers Days. It annoyed me that it cost $100 each time, but my DH makes an obscene amount of money, so it's OK. These flowers were basically our relationship. She got: something to show off, bragging rights, ability to compare which sibling did best. I got: A thank you, and better than that: Silence for months. Although she was also pursuing a man during those yeats, so she could have been distracted. IDK, but I made the term: FU Flowers.
