Runners: What gifts and/or stores do you like?

I agree with what everyone has said about running gear being very person specific. It’s really well intentioned, but unless you know exactly what they use, I’d go the gift card route.

Um, try not to make claims that are readily disproved. The most expensive shorts that Tracksmith sells is $148 (https://www.tracksmith.com/products/m-rain-shorts?sku=MB306502N), and the cheapest men's shorts are $62 (https://www.tracksmith.com/products/m-twilight-split-shorts?sku=MB32401AGAW). Maybe they don't technically sell any shorts for $100, but I think $98 is pretty damn close, don't you? (https://www.tracksmith.com/products/m-off-roads-shorts?sku=MB305501OCN).

Tracksmith stuff is quality, but don't kid yourself about it not signaling wealth.

Another example of personal preferences: I wouldn't want any of the Goodr sunglasses for running, because I prefer wraparound, which they don't sell.

I'd ask what brand of socks they like and offer to get some new pairs. Socks are something that wear out gradually so it's nice to have some fresh pairs. Or a gift certificate to a general store like Pacers.

I disagree that you shouldn’t get them something new to try because you should assume they have particular requirements. I have been running for over 20 years and I love to try new stuff and add it to my rotation. I never believed in “running socks” until my DH bought me three pair one Christmas. I think things like socks, gloves, winter hats, and reflective gear are all safe bets and would be much appreciated.

Thanks for doing the legwork to confirm that Tracksmith doesn’t sell $100 shorts! Btw, if people are staring at you as you run, it’s probably not because of the jaw-dropping aura of wealth you’re exuding, but because of your poor running form.

I agree with this. Like don’t go and buy a pair of shoes, but socks and that kind of stuff isn’t a bad idea. And if buying socks go to the store and talk to them. I got myself some running specific socks for the first time ever after blowing up a toe turkey trotting. They do work for a specific pair of my speed/tempo trainers.
