I have a few runners in my family and would like to get them some running-related gifts. One is training for a half-marathon and one is older who runs for general fitness a few times a week. What brand of running socks and gloves do you like? Anything else that you would appreciate? Any stores you like? I usually go to Pacers but they seem awfully expensive for what you get. Thank you! |
It's highly individual. Socks that might work for one individual might not for another - thickness of padding, cut, fabric, are all different. If you want to be sure they actually get used, sneak a peek at their laundry and get them the same things.
Otherwise... gift cards to a running store! |
Your intent is good, but most runners either have stuff or are very particular about things. For example, I have 2 sets of running gear I rotate through. I don't deviate ...all the way down to socks or how I tie my laces.
My kids gifted me a new running shirt and gloves last year. I wear them to be gracious, but not for running. I'm too set in my ways to dine new stuff. Having said that, and if you're still really set on a running theme, how about a picture ornament of a runner/marathoner (Etsy maybe?) or a picture frame or one of those "13.1 miles only half crazy" bumper stickers/refrigerator magnets? |
Dicks might be a good option. Since they cover a huge range of apparel, equipment, and everything else it might be a good fit.
And most runners are active in other sports so there's bound to be something they can find at Dicks. |
Pacers is the best local store.... but agree that people feel strongly about their socks, shoes, etc. |
Gift certificate to pacers |
I'd get a gift card to Tracksmith--they have really gorgeous, long-lasting stuff. |
I'm a runner and here are my favorites. You could give gift cards to these companies
Brooks brand for shoes and running clothes https://www.brooksrunning.com/en_us Noxgear for their lights for running in the dark https://www.noxgear.com/ Goodr sunglasses https://goodr.com/collections/running-sunglasses WrightSock anti-blister socks https://www.wrightsock.com/ Sunscreen -- Never go running without it, all year long. My fav is Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch 45 SPF |
Gift certificate to Running Warehouse. |
+1 to Tracksmith- my serial marathon-er husband is obsessed. |
Another example of personal preferences: I wouldn't want any of the Goodr sunglasses for running, because I prefer wraparound, which they don't sell. I'd ask what brand of socks they like and offer to get some new pairs. Socks are something that wear out gradually so it's nice to have some fresh pairs. Or a gift certificate to a general store like Pacers. |
+1 for the right person. Tracksmith is great stuff, but it is very expensive and runners know that it is very expensive. I have a pair of shorts that were gifted to me that I love, but I don't love running in shorts that everyone knows cost $100 |
Potomac River Running is also great. |
Agree with the others ... favorite brands and makes are so subjective. A gift card is always a good idea!
|
They must not be Tracksmith then, because Tracksmith doesn't sell $100 shorts. I don't know of any brand that does, so I wouldn't assume that everyone knows how much your gear costs. Run faster, so no one can see the logo! ![]() |
