Matt Lucas leaving GBBO

He was better this season than in past years, but still not my favorite. I hope they find someone with a warm and calming influence, but still funny.

I also ended up like Noel more than I initially thought I would.

Something was very unpleasant about Matt, I guess if was obvious to the producers.

He just seems mean-spirited. It's rarely self-deprecating humor.

Not a fan of Matt on GBBO.

Would be heartbroken if Noel left.

I liked the girls so much more - they were way more entertaining and funny.

I don't find Matt or Noel particularly funny. Their jokes land like lead balloons most of the time. Notice when the camera pans back to the contestants, they are barely laughing. It's awkward!

He was the worst of all hosts/judges on GBBO or its spinoffs... by far.

Sometimes I wonder whether his humor just does not translate to Americans--isn't he pretty well known in the UK? Rarely do I see a comedian/host that I just do NOT get at ALL--usually I can at least guess at what their appeal is for some audience--by Matt just left me stumped, and bored (and slightly icked out).

I really liked Noel and Sandy's energy, both separately and together. I think they balanced each other out well.

I think Matt was too low energy and it felt like his brand of humor was like in opposition to Noel, instead of complimentary. Sandy was a "straight man" (sorry) to Noel's zaniness, but in a way that made it feel like she was in on the fun and secretly tickled. Matt seemed genuinely annoyed when he was supposed to be playing at it, and many of his bits just felt joyless in context. I could see him being funny in another context, but it didn't work on the show.

He was good in Little Britain, but I don't think his brand of humor translates to being a game show host. He's not very engaging and couldn't develop any rapport with the contestants. Most of his jokes fell flat.

I’m British, I love Matt and I’m sad he’s going. Reading the above posts and previous threads on here I think it’s clear Americans didn’t like him and didn’t get his humour, and since the show is huge here I think they decided to move on. I hope someone great replaces him.

I liked Matt. He was a calming presence to some of the contestants. He and Noel were funny together.

I agree. I do not enjoy Noel at all and Matt is worse.

Mel and Sue were great. But they’re not likely coming back. Best to stop comparing.

I would add Richard Ayoade. He and Noel have great energy.

Ha!! I would definitely watch that, but I'm pretty sure Ayoade wouldn't take such a people person's gig!

But now I'm thinking through that clique, and I wonder if Matt Berry might be good?

They will choose someone LGBTQ+, though. There's always one host who is, and I'm sure that's intentional. Maybe Joe Lycett? He'd be good, but he has other projects going on.
