It's Upstate, so there may not be particularly good bagels where OP is going. But Mumbo sauce is definitely a better bet. |
OP here - this is right up their alley! Thank you for the reminder about these! Also the Bloody Mary mix sounds perfect. Thank you all for the suggestions - really appreciate it. (Alas, definitely can't do the bagels - the family lives in NYC and this is just their weekend house.) |

Yeah DC Brau sucks.
If it’s acceptable to bring beer from Va or MD, IME both states have a number of beers that are far better than those in the district. |

This shit is amazing. I buy a jar every time I’m in a store that carries it. |
Really nice looking bottles. And looks like a nice spot to get a drink! |
The only good thing on this list is the Old Bay chips, and those aren’t even from DC. |
| There are some less than exciting answers here because DC doesn’t really have local foods that they are known for like other cities. Just forget the DC theme and bring them a nice basket of specialty foods like cheese, crackers, jam, olives, shortbread, nuts, and wine. Trader Joes is a good place to start. |
People from Upstate call them baggles. They don’t count. |
No one wants to receive “mumbo” sauce.

Promise you not one person in this thread who said mumbo sauce has ever eaten it |

This is the answer. Those cookies are a taste of heaven. |
NYer here, former DCer - this is the right answer. These plus their ginger scones are basically the only food I actively seek out when I’m in DC. |
