Any student can get in through the lottery if there is space. (After the first couple of years, if then, there won’t be slots available.) |
More segregation! |
No, just crowding. Hardy is very diverse; I’m not sure how you described it as “segregated.” But the current 6th Grade is 200 students, so that is in the ballpark of what will fit in Macarthur. |
Really hoping for the school leader to be a person of color! |
Is that because you want all four of the middle and high schools principals in the current Jackson-Reed feeder system to be non-white? |
Is there something wrong with that? You do know non-white individuals can lead diverse school communities, right? |
Dp: There’s nothing wrong with that. Is there something wrong with one or more being white? What I want is the most capable manager and the best leader. I hope the decision-makers didn’t compromise one iota on skills, talent, or experience to favor any sort of skin color or ethnicity. |
The point is that 3 of the 4 already have Black principals. Why does anyone care whether the principal of Macarthur is a person of color or not? |
DCPS had said they wanted to have a principal named by EdFest, which was today. Anyone heard anything? |
EdFest had technical challenges. I was not able to login. I would like to know if the leader was there also. |
The new leader is coming from Stanton ES in southeast. Hope we will get an opportunity to meet him soon. |
This guy? https://dcps.dc.gov/biography/harold-mccray-jr |
There is a lot of info out there about the power of students of color seeing themselves reflected in teachers and school leadership. It can have an outsized positive impact. |
Do not think its necessarily about skin color. As long as he is capable and able to handle the demands of high school, I am ok. His bio does not mention experience with secondary. |
PhD from Walden University is kind of a red flag. They are a pretty slimy for-profit degree mill. |
