Anne Arundel checking in.
Love my kids school, so generally not much to complain about. HOWEVER... the transportation fiasco in AACPS last year and this year is worthy of a 79+ page post for sure. |
| I love my kids' elementary school in AA and think it is very well-run. If there's something to discuss, we have FB groups for each grade my kids are in. Why would I talk to DCUM randos when I can talk to people directly in my community? |
| I just think there aren’t many people on DCUM from outside HoCo and MoCo. The occasional PG county folks maybe. There was a recent post here about Urbana I was following because I’m hoping to move there, and it died after like 13 posts. |
Ya, I was surprised to see not a single post on the Frederick county teacher in Green Valley ES who basically took her ES students off campus, and made them take off their clothes while walking through the woods after claiming that there were multiple stabbings at the school. |
Yeah, that's a good point. But tbh, I also think people in MoCo use situations like to try to make political points on this board, not really having a discussion on the issue. We live close to Green Valley ES, and that situation was discussed quite a lot on FB groups and other message boards, etc. But lets be honest: the MCPS board is full of trolls who would use something like that just to incite responses |
| 😲 never heard about this |
| Howard County here. I posted more about HoCo years back. I stopped because there was no ability to have discussions without getting attacked. |
Probably by moco people. They get very offended when the two are compared or if anyone suggests HoCo is better. |
Agree. But the fact is that while HCPSS has some issues, there are far fewer issues that in MCPS. I know teachers in both and teacher morale is better in HCPSS than MCPS. And parents are nicer and a lot less aggressive and condescending in HoCo than MoCo. Win all around for us. |
+1 Less posting here is probably more a function of few people outside of MoCo using DCUM and lets be honest, more civilized discourse. Half those threads are just the same 4-8 people calling each other names |
Um, I work with a bunch of HoCo parents and trust me they're no angels. Plenty of complaints to spread around. You should've heard them during the boundary reassignments. |
I mean...what would we say? It sounded weird and sad, like the teacher was actually deluded. I am also in Frederick and one of the reasons we moved here was it was a little more middle class "normal" and a little less intense and competitive than closer to DC. We're a dual PhD couple who highly values education, but not in a competitive way where our kids have to come out on top. |
Was that before or after they finally broke out the MCPS system into it's own forum? I know that when it was only MD Public Schools all jammed into one forum that the MCPS parents pounced on any thread that involved anything other than MCPS and started with the condescending hostility towards non-MCPS schools. It's gotten a lot better since they got their own forum. |
I understand and agree. There were and are a lot of bitterness around the school balancing. But even on their worst days, the worst in HCPSS is still only about as bad as the average MCPS parents. |
MCPS got their own forum during Covid due to so many threads about MCPS handling of it. Now that's no longer an issue, there's just not as much to discuss both for MCPS and elsewhere. |
