DD is not into team sports but loves to bike, ski, kayak etc as a family, and does very well academically. We are wondering what options would be logistically feasible and if we should just move to MoCo instead.

For Catholic Schools, my DD is a 9th grader was not into team sports previously - but loves the social element and has gone and cheered on her friends at soccer games, volleyball matches and football games so far this fall.

Many St. John's kids take metro bus to school (or carpools form)

What we have found (so far) is that the kids are happy. We know many stressed out kids at different schools and kids who are dealing with serious mental health issues due to bullying and "mean girl" dynamics. I know it is present -but our observations to date are that it is a more healthy balance.

I would take a look - it was out DD's 1st choice and she turned down some more competitive schools.

Thank you, that's good to know. I thought being good at team sports was a requirement there but maybe not as much as I thought.

Definitely look at SJC. There are a lot of activities outside of sports for the kids. Mine aren't sporty (one in choir the other really into art) but love going to the games. The championship game was a ton of fun with them and their non-sporty friends. They loved storming the field. We are in Shaw and there are some other kids by us at SJC too.

It's a private K-8, she likes the mix of real academics but not a ton of pressure and that organized sports are available but not a requirement. We will apply to Walls for sure, maybe McKinley but math and science are not really her passion although she does well.

What K-8 did you attend? We are in your neighborhood and most of the private schools seem soooo far away!

I believe Madeira has a bus. Your daughter sounds like a good fit there.

It depends on what you mean by so far away. We make it work. Is it convenient, no, but what is in this city. It's a temporary pain point also.

We were in your situation and moved. Best decision ever. My kids are in a great pyramid with challenging academics, tons of sports and clubs and are walking distance to school and friends. Don’t discount how much time your DD will spend at the HS. Any time saved by walkability in your neigborhood will evaporate with a school commute.
