Same. I assumed it was my period, thought the test wasn't positive enough (very faint line showed up after you're supposedly not supposed to read results) waited until the next cycle and got a positive and thought I was newly pregnant. So dumb. At my first u/s I was expecting to be told I was like 6 weeks along and I was really 11. How little I knew then.

I had implantation bleeding on what would have been my period day after previously testing pregnant so it’s definitely possible. That turned out to be an uncomplicated pregnancy and delivery so it was definitely just implantation bleeding.

Implantation bleeding is basically not having enough HCG yet to signal to keep making high levels of progesterone and not shed the lining, starting to have progesterone briefly drop and then making enough HCG that your body signals “wait time to make more progesterone!” and progesterone levels go up and shedding the endometrial lining is stopped. So in a sense it is basically the same thing as a period, just one that reverses course once progesterone levels are signaled to stay up rather than drop because pregnancy is detected.

So that’s why there is such a range…it can not happen at all (enough HCG made before progesterone starts to drop) or have enough bleeding that it almost appears to be a period if implantation happens late in the luteal phase close to when the period is supposed to happen.
