“Overweight” but don’t feel you look it?

I am 5’9 and 175. My BMI is higher. But I exercise a lot and am toned. I also have big boobs. I wear a size 8, sometimes 10 in dresses, and I look pretty great for 40! I was 155 when I got married and looked extremely thin. One of my friends is 5’8 and has never seen the scale tip above 150, even when pregnant. She is very narrow and has zero curves. She looks great but I can objectively see that we have completely different bodies. Weight is deceptive!

I am 5’8 and 151. I’ve gained almost 10 pounds since the pandemic. I think I have only about 4-5 more pounds to go before I start to look overweight. I am carrying most of my extra weight in the tummy and hips.

It didn’t take long for someone with an unhealthy relationship with weight throw out the BS “vanity sizing” comment.

151 and 5’8” is bottom of bmi and 10lbs less is an unhealthy weight.

It could mean you have a lot of invisible visceral fat underneath your muscles and fascia. Which isn’t good. Or you could have a lot of lean mass.

Knowing what your body fat percentage is would help.

I’m chuckling because, if you have a healthy self image, you’re going to think you look pretty good, and you may be willing to overlook small deficits. I know I overlook my own small deficits and I’m glad for it. There are some women who struggle with self image and are overly critical, which is a terrible way to live.

Now I'm like a size 12/14, and still have that "I look good" mentality, and then am surprised when I see photos of myself. I work out a few days a week, but I also eat whatever I want. Oh well.

This is me. I honestly think I look good but….

Similar. I look fine in mirrors but less fine in photos. I assume the truth is somewhere in the middle.

The next generation will hopefully not have such a f’d up view on size.

My daughter is size 10/12, 5’7” top of her BMI, D1 college athlete vegan.

She is unbelievably healthy and beautiful and never once thought oh wow my bmi.

It's definitely not the bottom of BMI. It's in the upper part of the healthy range. Source: I am 5'8" and look at my BMI all the time

Unfortunately not. There are injectable drugs that can make you as skinny as you want to be now. Well not quite, but they will be there in a few years. It’s going to have a huge influence on body culture.

You look at your BMI “all the time”.

You have an unhealthy relationship with your weight… source… you and your posts.

You are talking about outliers. Come back to earth please.

I'm the opposite: normal weight yet feel a little plump. That's because I'm a petite Asian who is very fine-boned. The BMI scale was not constructed for people like me.

I am not. I study these drugs for a living. They are extremely effective and becoming exponentially more effective with each new release. If you don’t think it will have an impact on culture you are very naive.

Pp here who wrote this…I don’t have an unhealthy relationship with weight at all. I feel good about my weight yet I know when I start to feel bad or start to pack on the pounds quickly that it’s time to cut back. This is not because I will actually be overweight but because I will feel heavy and also start to look like I’m over weight as I carry most of my weight in my midsection, legs and hips. I’m pretty sure this is what I said in my Op but you are looking to find someone to complain about on this fine day. Lastly, vanity sizing is real in the fast fashion clothes I buy. Perhaps you shop elsewhere and aren’t privy to this.
