The emailed reports are very top level. Logging in to the site gives much more detail, but it is only for the past 7 days.

Thank you!

DD spent an average of 2.25 hours on her computer during school hours. Is that typical?

Teacher here. It depends. This week my kids are on computers more because they are publishing their writing and have had a few tests online. So some days they are on for 2 1/2 hours and other days they are not.

Yeah, that’s because the teacher didn’t trust you to teach anything. Don’t take it personally—most sins aren’t professionals.

DP. I can see why there is a huge lack of subs. No one wants to fill in for aholes.

1/2 the subs barely speak English. The teacher was being prepared.

Once again: we were following the daily routine. The teacher stated as much. Computer time was part of every single lesson.

I was responding to the PP calling the poster (and maybe all teachers) a—holes.

yes. Very typical.
They use it during rotations or periods of differentiation. The teacher has to work with small groups and the computers are used for the others. Also, the computers are used a lot for writing composition. They are also used in social studies a lot because they do not have textbooks and can access digital links of reading. The teachers also use Google slides as lectures.

Yes, the tests are often online for ease of grading. The time on computers could be more than 2.5 hours because they trade classes and teachers.

DP. I think the a-hole comment was directed specifically at the PP in bold, who does in fact sound like an a-hole.

I'm really more concerned about how much print time they're getting. Books cause eyestrain and don't have accessibility features like screens.

You can't be serious.

Grades K-3 shouldn't be spending any time on computers. They should be given books instead. FCPS has become so incredibly lazy.

I just signed up for the reports, but my 2nd grader watches tv shows online once she completes the computer work.

I think it is way higher post-covid. They got used to using computers. Young kids developed the skills to navigate them. The county acquired computers for all students. My kids are in 5th and 7th. When they were in K-2, they had like 4 chrome books in their classrooms for all to use and went to the computer lab for 30 minutes once per week.

Ha! We have Lexia now and required 60 minutes a week. Kindergarten has iPads this year.

I've resigned myself to the fact that all kids' assessments and tests in the future will be on their laptops and it's best to get them started early. My 4th grader doesn't test well on computer-based tests and ALL the tests are computer-based. If she'd had a laptop in K-1, maybe she would be more comfortable doing the tests now. I hate it, I think it's awful, but it is what it is and it's not going to change.

Are you saying this is a good thing? Because it's not.

No. I agree. I was responding to the person who said k-3 shouldn’t have computers.
