Two dead in shooting at Giant food

I would not blame Giant if they close the store. Nobody wants to work there. Yet they complain that the area is a food desert.

That was at Friday 11/4/22 10:25 am and on Wednesday 11/2/22 there was a fatal stabbing in the parking lot of the shopping center at 12:05 pm. These are normal shopping hours-not late night early am. Shopping center itself looks like most in the DMV. http://pgpolice.blogspot.com/2022/11/detectives-release-video-of-oxon-hill.html

It would not surprise me if Giant closes that store due to the knifings and shootings.

Food deserts are created by people in the neighborhood.

I inadvertently put something in my purse in a Walgreens and saw it when I got my wallet to pay. When I told the cashier she said I would not even have been approached if they had seen me - it is a nationwide policy so no one gets shot. This was in an UMC neighborhood 1 hr outside Philly.

I guess that is why the stores are all locking up the $$ stuff and you need to call an employee. They also push purchasing online and having the items shopped for you.

Would you have drawn your gun on the security guard?

No. That wasn’t the point. I was unclear. Clearly.
I guess the security guards were being put in danger often enough that policy changed to protecting employees over products. They now lock expensive items up. Or even easily stolen things like toothpaste. It’s annoying, but a better way than having a security guard or employee get hurt.

+1000. It is really unfortunate that a few really badly behaved people cause a great deal of hardship for the rest, but I can't blame businesses for leaving or choosing not to set up stores in areas where they can't make a profit and their employees are subjected to this kind of behavior.

Do you not get that people’s financial circumstances can change over time —sometimes quite quickly?

Responding only to the last bit of snark, not to the details of this specific situation.

She could have sold the gun to buy bread and milk, idiot.

Yes, I do. I have been in those circumstances. But the way to solve a problem is not by murdering a security guard, but by going to a food pantry for help. There are three in Oxon Hill within a mile of the Giant.
