A box of luxury British Christmas crackers for their Christmas dinner. They are fun with silly jokes, a hat and a toy, as well as a big noise.

I get my now 93 YO mother a food basket with sweets, crackers, cheese, and cookies. She loves it.

I've also given Japanese snack boxes with an assortment of candy, crackers, etc. If they're adventuresome, this is fun.

I am in my 60's and received an early Christmas gift this year of a year of HBO max. They had a special going on until the end of October for a year of service for $70.
I am enjoying it very much.

I read that netflix is supposed to start offering a reduced rate with ads, starting this month.
Hulu has been offering a black Friday deal the last several years for a year of service for only $1 or $2 a month.

Just about everyone likes to sit around and watch TV, so a year of some streaming service is an option for a gift.

+1 Send a H&D basket with a variety of fruit so they don’t get too much of any one thing.

Your mother is not an "old person" and in any case that's a rude term to use to describe people.

I got my FIL a seat cushion made by Purple. My FIL came to our house for Christmas so he opened it and I tried it out--omg it's so perfect...I bought one for myself and sit on it every day.
