They don’t need an “open street” to supplement for that fact that they live in a concrete jungle. Third, a vague estimate of “thousands” is generous. The last “open street” for upper Georgia Avenue was well documented to be sparsely attended. “Hundreds” would be more accurate. Fourth, the only activities are a few free yoga and workout classes. Few would need or want to avail themselves of free access to one class and who wants to work out or do yoga on the hard cement with the gravel and oil and grease. Sounds enticing.

You know what is a great “open street” event? When they used to shut down Georgia Ave for the Caribbean Day Parade. When they shut down 18th Street for the Adams Morgan Street Festival. The Marine Corps Marathon. Those add value to the community. This ain’t it.

You should read the Twitter posts from of families living on the side streets. Not super happy with 18 wheelers and through traffic cutting through the side streets. BTW, this what the CT bike lanes are going to do.

My family lives a half block from Wisconsin, and our street was closed all day as well as Wisconsin. We loved it. BTW, the bike lanes are not going to close the street in both directions and also close every side street for a block on both sides of Connecticut, so that comparison is silly.
