Will top school admissions calm down a little bit this year - or no?

Anonymous
There was some thought that last year was extraordinary because it was the year that Covid deferrals and international students who sat on sidelines for two years returned. Even if true, it will still be very difficult due to demographics.

In about 2030, the numbers of high school grads will come down and it may get slightly easier as a result.

But aren’t the international students usually competing against each other for a set number of spots they set aside for international students? I don’t think schools take spots for domestic students and give them to international ones.

Emory is currently at 20 percent international students, according to their own info session. Got to think that number has been increasing over time.

They are a private University, so they are not under the same obligations as a public I would think.

Getting visas is getting harder. It would be nice if the feds would make it much harder, but its still hard enough to cut down on the number of applicants. Covid zero closures probably don't make obtaining one in China easier

I'm personally fine with using merit except for helping educate anyone who originate from a hostile country (Russia, China) in STEM since that's not in the US's best interests.

DCUM is so bad at math. No, the schools you care about will never be easier admits. Never. Quit thinking there's a demographic shortcut to get Larla into Penn. There's just not.

Community colleges, regional publics, and poor privates will get hammered by demographic shifts. Nothing in the Princeton Review's top-however-many-it-is-these-days will feel even a nudge.

I wish they would stop accepting Russians. I’m looking at you, American University, which educated a Russian spy recently.

You do realize that there are many millions of Russians that are not spies and are anti-Putin. Hopefully you also realize that Russia has a tremendous history of strong math primary education and has many of the best mathematicians in the world. So you’re essentially saying you don’t want universities to admit the students? That not only sounds like xenophobia but sounds like it will hurt the universities and the US.

The US has done its fair share of stealing as exposed by Edward Snowden.

I doubt it. At my DD’s school, 200 more kids enrolled than expected. Many friends report similar over enrollment numbers at their kids schools too. We are talking about top 30.
