Thanks! I will try those.

I don't like Spanx leggings because of the lack of good pockets. The Danskin leggings from Costco are better.

Appreciate your best recs!

Marine Layer's Allison pant comes in petite length. The fabric is lightweight and travels well (tencel/recycled polyester/spandex blend). It's a pull-on pant with a slightly tapered leg and little tulip detail at the hem, so it drapes nicely. You can dress them up or down. I wore them on a recent trip to LA for casual work meetings, dinners with friends, and to the Hollywood Bowl for a concert.

Super cute, thanks. A little casual for what I’m looking for, but I’m actually in CA and could make good use out of these. I will see if I can try them on.

What did you wear with them in each context?

I am 40ish and petite. My favorite black pants are from topshop. Wide leg + high waist to elongate my not-long legs.

Mine are years old but these look close: https://www.asos.com/us/topshop/topshop-petite-slouch-straight-pants-in-black/prd/201266587?clr=black&colourWayId=201266588&cid=30238

I recently went into an Anne Taylor (can’t tell you the last thing I bought there) and was surprised at how much I liked!

OK but the pants are a different thing and OP didn't say she was looking for leggings with pockets.

The Spanx pants don't have pockets or buttons/zippers but that's a feature not a bug for some people. They are made of a nice quality ponte and the entire point is to smooth you out for a nice line. The high waist, wide leg ones in particular are very flattering if you wear them with a bit of a heal and make sure they are properly hemmed. They don't wrinkle at all so they are great for travel and the clean lines really lend themselves to being dressed up for dinners and evening events.

Look very casual. Would not call them perfect at all.

Vince and theory make nearly perfect pants. You can find a few cuts from both at Bloomingdale’s or most other depart stores.

My favorite black pants are Vince and mm lafleur. I end up reaching for them so much more than my others. Runner up: j crew cameron.

I try to buy Vince on sale
