If you're vegetarian

Anonymous
I'm a vegetarian (lacto ovo). I just....don't eat meat or fish, ever.

I ask if there is meat broth or lard used in dishes where it is often used (soups, pastries) and I likely have ended up accidentally eating something. But I do my best to avoid.

If I sometimes ate meat I wouldn't be a vegetarian, I'd just be someone who doesn't eat a lot of meat. And that's fine too if that's your preference.

Vegetarian of over 30 years here. I never eat meat or any products derived from the killing of an animal (despite my neighbor insisting that caviar is vegetarian because its just eggs), don't wear leather, and chose this lifestyle because of ethical reasons.

I thought the PP was asking how strict you are about things like cross contamination or picking things out. I didn't eat meat for 15 years, but some of the more hard-core thought I was a little loose with it. Like I would eat vegetables off a grill that also cooked meat. If I ordered rice I didn't ask if it was made with chicken broth, though I wouldn't make it that way at home. If meat was present in something but easily removed I'd remove it and eat the rest.

Unknowingly maybe but not by choice. I have been a vegetarian for about 30 years and haven't eaten meat, fish, poultry, or any byproducts including leather. Zero interest.

I always ask about rice and other things that I suspect would be cooked with chicken broth. When avoidable, I have someone use foil for a grill and at home we'd cook the veggies first.

I grew up vegetarian (hindu) but occasionally had meat, like pepperoni pizza, taco bell, chili vert rarely since childhood. Only started fish a few years ago. Meat is still not something im comfortable with, but i cook it for my family. I consider myself mostly vegetarian. It’s part of my identity and i choose not to be orthodox about it. Im not sure what others consider me, and i dont care .

Bizarre question.

Right? I’m vegetarian and I roll my eyes when people say they are vegetarian and only eat fish or only eat meat once in a while.

I have been vegetarian for 20 years. No, I do not cheat, ever. But for me that means:

-No meat or fish of any sort
-No broths or things like that
-I avoid leather
