As for the risk of mispronunciation, no one is stupid enough to call her Mary Ella when names like Gabriella are common enough that they should know better- unless perhaps you will live in a rural, southern veering, predominantly non ethnic place.

My friend has a Mariella named for a dear friend who passed away. They call her "Millie" and I think it is adorable.

PP who knows the Mariella who gets her name mispronounced a lot. This is in DC at a Spanish immersion school. A lot of people are just kind of dumb about names.
