I thought Maret had a new Head

As someone who lives two blocks away and has no play space or field for their kids in site, I would definitely want to be able to access it. Are they saying they don’t want other “official” orgs and rec leagues to reserve the space, but still maintain some sort of neighborhood / public access to the facilities? And who is “the neighborhood”?

The neighbors do not want kids/people hanging around, walking around, cars parked in front of there house, etc. Therefore the ANC is negotiating that the site can only be used by Maret. It’s ridiculous. I go by the St Pats field on weekends and after 5 pm. It is all locked up. Look for the same thing with this facility.

That is absurd. You live in a city, properties get used — and should get used.

Where exactly is this new sports space? In Chevy Chase, DC? In a neighborhood? Unclear.

I think the controversial issues are field lights (shine near neighbors) and parking/traffic (disruptive to neighbors). I’m sure Maret would love the income and goodwill from renting the fields out and opening them to the public, but I doubt the neighbors would like that.

If you read the Washington Post article from last year, there are quotes from neighbors saying things like “i would have preferred a library” and wondering why they weren’t polled on how private land should be used.

The field design has no lights. There are no night games at the field.

There is no way Maret will just leave these fields open for the neighbors to use. The liability would be way too high. They will be behind a locked fence. I think they would like to be able to rent the fields to Stoddart soccer during the weekends and early mornings and during the summer. Stoddart is a VERY wealthy organization and will pay top dollar for any available field space in upper NW.

The land has sat essentially untouched for decades. I can only imagine the rat colonies that will be disrupted by the construction.

Agree I think that is the angle. In addition to renting out the fields for summer camps. It in their plans.

Lol it’s a suburban lot. Lawn and some woods surrounded by wealthy single family homes.

The documents on the Maret website refer to a 30 foot fence...lovely.

Shouldn’t there be a desire to use ANY available sports space? Why should it sit empty after 5pm? There is not enough sports space in our city, folks.

Yes but the neighbors do not want it used.

And? Rats don’t live in the suburbs?
