I thought Maret had a new Head

Anonymous
We just received a letter in the mail about Maret’s impending construction of its new sports complex in Chevy Chase (we live nearby) and it was signed by Marjo Talbot. I thought she had retired. Isn’t there a new head of school there?

New head comes next year

Does anyone know if the new head will be any good?

Interesting that the Maret press release about Bisgaard didn’t even mention that he was HOS at Whittle.

Wow. That's right.

"Currently the Interim Head at Baltimore Friends School, Mr. Bisgaard has served as a head of school for the last sixteen years. Twelve of those years were spent at Kingswood Oxford School in Connecticut where he developed new facilities, expanded fundraising, broadened the curriculum, and created exciting new opportunities for teaching and learning across disciplines."

Totally omitted the years he spent as HOS at Whittle.

What are they trying to hide from Maret parents and staff?

There’s already been a long thread on this issue. No need to start that over again!

The other thread on Maret is seventeen pages long. Sidwell and GDS sighing with relief since they’re usually the ones getting hate on this board haha

Nice try, but the mere reference to Whittle is buried in a single link to a link among many links, and doesn't even mention he was HOS. More importantly, the press release itself hides his tenure at Whittle.

It’s under Independent school leadership. He was HOS at all of those schools, no?

Did the letter say when construction is expected to start and end? Can’t find updated info online. Thanks!

They seem to be trying for fall of next year for competition. Interesting thing is the neighborhood is trying to restrict use to just Maret. There are so few fields in DC. If a private school is willing to let others use the field it should be allowed. DC Council needs to remove restrictions on field use. I know St Pats field is restricted. I think Stoddert travel soccer has to play in Gaithersburg because they can not find fields in DC.

That is incredibly frustrating. What’s the reason they give? As someone who lives two blocks away and has no play space or field for their kids in site, I would definitely want to be able to access it. Are they saying they don’t want other “official” orgs and rec leagues to reserve the space, but still maintain some sort of neighborhood / public access to the facilities? And who is “the neighborhood”?

It would be nice if you can use it, but why do you feel entitled to use private property?

If the “neighborhood” is against it, I can only imagine it’s a cranky group fearing traffic from “outsiders.”
