And BCC kids can do it while driving back and forth to school. |
| Having gone to one of the two MoCo schools mentioned and now sending kids to Wilson with full intentionality - the ridiculous over pressure for achievement and competitive over really nothing (one more thing on a college application?) at BCC and Whitman is a flip side that takes a big toll. Cue the substance misuse (rampant), eating disorders, anxiety, and more. Ladders smadders. |
| I’m still laughing out loud every time I see this thread and see OP misspelled latter in the same breath of criticizing a high school |
Ok, but don't pretend that the whiteness of the neighborhood/school is unrelated to the fact that you consider it "better." It's not a coincidence |

I have on who just graduated from Wilson/J-R and one who is a sophomore....I will say that it went through a rough year last year but it is very different this year. Yes, still very over crowded; yes, still chaotic and the schedules were a mess. But the level of rigor is much higher, teachers are good (some vacancies unfortunately, but that is likely true at many MoCo schools), and the behavior is much better. The new principal seems excellent.
Oh, and my recent grad is at a large, "top 25" school and feels well prepared, both academically and in terms of being able to navigate a large school. I have no interest in comparing it to any MoCo school but I do think last year was an anomaly. |
thanks for the update! I don’t think we can judge based on the past few years for obvious reasons. btw - have we figured out if DCTAG is actually 15k now? |
Yes. https://norton.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/norton-secures-historic-home-rule-victory-in-senate-s-dc-0 |
I'm not sure BUT it is means tested now (we didn't qualify!). |

As another poster said, there's just no comparison between NW DC publics schools and Bethesda-area MCPS public schools. Even for BCC, which is the least-good Bethesda high school (compared to Whitman and Walter Johnson and *possibly* Churchill). No judgement. It's just how it is. |
but it’s like 500k HHI right? |
But this is a bill, not the law that was passed by Manchin and Sinema and the rest of the Senate. Was the increase in that law? I haven’t seen any indication it was, and I feel certain EHN would have put it in a press release. |
It would help if you provided more than just a conclusory statement. Or do they not teach you how to support your conclusions at the W schools? |
That’s what I think too. |
I just read the Senate approved part. Norton Secures Historic Home-Rule Victory in Senate’s D.C. Appropriations Bill I think the entire 2023 DC Bill is stuck in the CR but it seems promising that it passed senate appropriations and needs full senate and presidential signature. |
One huge difference...there's no way Wilson parents would have turned a blind eye to a rowing coach grooming and sexually assaulting students just because he increased their college prospects. So, there's that. |
